Assistant Attorney General, Wyoming Attorney General`s Office

As an assistant attorney general,  Ms. Karpan brought a licensure revocation case against a Lovell Wyoming physician named John Story.  Dr. Story had sexually assaulted patients at his Lovell clinic for decades, but nobody did anything about it, until Kathy Karpan and a courageous mother whose two daughters had been assaulted by Dr. Story had the courage to correct this unspeakable wrong.  The Wyoming Medical Board hearing panel revoked Dr. Story`s medical license.  Once word  spread about this, over 45 women across Wyoming and the country filed criminal complaints with the prosecuting attorney.  Dr. Story was then tried and convicted on criminal sexual assaults charges and was sentenced to  fourteen years in prison.  This was the first case in the country where a medical board took the license of a medical doctor for sexual misconduct.   CBS` 60 Minutes did a feature on the Dr. Story case, although it sided with Dr. Story.  There was also a book written by  Jack Olson  "Doc The Rape of the Town of Lovell."
